A 26-year-old man shot and killed himself in front of his Newport Beach home, police said Friday.
Newport Beach police responded about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday to the 2600 block of Cliff Drive, and discovered a man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Sgt. Steve Burdette.
Officials have not released his name or other details about his identity.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, Burdette said. There were no witnesses, but people nearby reported hearing a gunshot.
The call was reported by a passerby, said police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.
A pistol was recovered from the scene, she said.
