LA MIRADA — Samantha Doucette and Gionni Blankenship scored 12 points each for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game on Tuesday.
Melissa Norman grabbed 19 rebounds to go with nine points, while Clare Lamunu also scored nine points for Vanguard (12-3, 4-1 in conference).

LA MIRADA — Zach Allmon had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game on Tuesday.
Jaamon Echols added 16 points and Brandon Brothers scored 13 points for Vanguard (12-5, 1-4 in conference).
Biola is 19-2, 6-1.

Vanguard 7, La Sierra 2
Junior right fielder Brock Eissman had a home run and five runs batted in to lead the host Lions in the nonconference season opener on Saturday.
Eissman hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning and also had a two-run double to wind up two for four for the Lions.
Justin Vega and Trai Patrick also had two hits apiece for the winners, for whom senior Sean Isaac pitched six innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Isaac struck out seven.
Vanguard visits Marymount California University on Jan. 29.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine def. UC Santa Barbara
Junior outside hitter Tamir Hershko had 19 kills and junior setter Michael Saeta added a season-best 48 assists to go with four aces to help the host Anteaters earn a 25-19, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22 win in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday.
Hershko hit .474 and had a team-best 12 digs to help No. 4-ranked UCI improve to 2-2, 1-1 in conference.
UCSB, than ranked No. 8, now No. 9 in the poll, fell to 5-2, 1-1.
Kyle Russell and Reid Dominguez had 11 kills apiece, while Jason Agopian and Marty Ross chipped in six kills each. Ross was in on five blocks, including one solo stuff.
UCI visits Pepperdine on Friday at 7 p.m. and is at Stanford on Saturday.

Samantha Doucette added 14 points, seven rebounds and a team-best five assists for No. 12-ranked Vanguard (11-3, 3-1 in conference), which never trailed.
HIU fell to 8-6, 1-4.

Long Beach State 71, UC Irvine 65
The host Anteaters, last among 344 NCAA Division I programs in three-point shooting entering the week, made six of 12 three-point tries in the Big West Conference game Saturday.
Andrea Ritter was three for five from threedom for UCI (3-15, 0-4 in conference), which has lost 10 straight.
Shereen Sutherland had 16 points and eight rebounds for UCI, which received 12 points and eight rebounds from Mckenzier Piper.
Ritter had 11 points, while Raelyn Cheung-Sutton had 11 assists, five steals and five points.
Long Beach State, which made 24 of 27 foul shots, improved to 13-5, 2-2.
UCI will play host to Hawaii on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Senior Jaamon Echols had 25 points and nine assists to pace the host Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Zach Allmon had 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Myles Smith chipped in 13 points for the Lions (12-4, 1-3 in conference).
No. 9-ranked HIU, which shot 59.1% from the field, is 13-2, 5-0.

UC Irvine 5, UC San Diego 2
Senior Tyler Pham won in singles and doubles to lead the host Anteaters in the nonconference match on Sunday.
Pham rallied to top Eric Tseng, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, and paired with Jonathan Hammel to earn a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles to help the Anteaters (4-1) win the doubles point.
Nico Mertens, Luca Marquard and Vatsal Bajpal won at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 singles for UCI.
UCSD is 0-2.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
UC Irvine 4, Grand Canyon 3
Junior Cassidy Branstine won in singles and doubles to pace the host Anteaters in the season-opening nonconference match Saturday.
Branstine earned a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles and teamed with Stephanie Hazell to post a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles to help UCI win the singles point.
Andrea Duva and Vivien Dvali won at No. 2 doubles for UCI, which received singles wins from Sarah Gong (No. 1) and Catherine Kreslin (No. 6).

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Lumberjack Team Challenge
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — UC Irvine sophomore Taisyan Crutchfield finished third among 36 competitors in the 60-meter dash at the indoor meet on Saturday at Northern Arizona University.
Cruchfield’s time of 7.66 seconds (converted for altitude) was the second-best in UCI annals,
UCI’s Persis William Nensah, the school record-holder (7.61) was fourth in the 60 on Saturday.
Junior Megan George was third among 24 athletes in the 60 hurdles with a converted time of 8.63 seconds for UCI.
UCI’s Kaulyn Lee-McNeill was third in the 800 in 2 minutes, 19.99 seconds, one spot ahead of teammate Crystal Lizaola (2:20.49).
UCI’s Ariel Cheng was fifth in the pole vault (11 feet, 7 3/4 inches).
