AT THE PLATE: On the day the Dodgers offered fans bobblehead dolls made in his image, Yasiel Puig was two for three with a run batted in, a double, a run and a walk. Hanley Ramirez continued to show signs he might be close to breaking out of his slump, as he broke a scoreless stalemate by doubling in the Dodgers’ first two runs in a five-run sixth inning. Ramirez scored on a double by Adrian Gonzalez, who has also been scuffling at the plate. Matt Kemp was two for four with a run batted in and a run scored. Carl Crawford was two for four with a double. Marlins starter Jacob Turner lasted only 5 1/3 innings and was charged with five runs (four earned) and eight hits.
ON THE MOUND: Brandon League pitched a perfect eighth inning, extending his scoreless streak to 10 appearances. He has pitched 161/3 innings over that span. Chris Perez inherited a runner from Josh Beckett with one out in the seventh inning and prevented him from scoring.
MEDICAL UPDATE: Catcher A.J. Ellis returned from a two-game rehabilitation assignment with triple-A Albuquerque, but wasn’t immediately activated from the 15-day disabled list. Ellis, who underwent a knee operation last month, could return to the lineup as early as Wednesday. Meanwhile, Juan Uribe continued to be held out of the lineup, as Manager Don Mattingly didn’t want to take any chances with the veteran third baseman’s sore hamstring. Uribe was available off the bench for the second consecutive day, but Mattingly said he would prefer to not start him until the Dodgers open a three-game series in Arizona on Friday.
UP NEXT: Paul Maholm (1-3, 4.71 ERA) will face the Marlins and Anthony DeSclafani (major league debut) on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium at 7 p.m. On the air: TV: SportsNet LA; Radio: 570, 1020 (Spanish).
