Dodgers fall to the Phillies, 5-3

AT THE PLATE: Yasiel Puig was two for four with a triple and a run. Puig has reached base in 25 consecutive games.

ON THE MOUND: Dan Haren was charged with five runs and six hits over six innings. Of the five runs, only two were earned. Haren gave up four runs in the first two innings, something he blamed on his inability to miss bats. He and catcher A.J. Ellis scrapped their game plan at that stage and started throwing more splitters.

ON THE BENCH: Matt Kemp was out of the lineup for the second consecutive day, a sign Manager Don Mattingly might be starting to prefer Andre Ethier in center field. Mattingly said he had plans to start Kemp again, but wouldn’t say when that might happen.

EXTRA BASES: Erisbel Arruebarrena collected his first career hit in the fifth inning on a single to center field against David Buchanan. Arruebarrena scored on a single by Dee Gordon.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Dodgers are 4-4 on this trip, which concludes Sunday.
