Boras Classic: El Camino Real pulls out nine-inning win to advance to semifinals

Loaded with returnees from last season’s City Section Division I championship team, El Camino Real is used to handling pressure and winning close games. The Conquistadores did it again on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the Boras Classic.

Jake Selco came through with an RBI single in the top of the ninth and Daniel Moreno added a squeeze to lift ECR past Great Oak, 3-1. Jose Campos limited Great Oak to one run in seven innings. Zack Noll of Great Oak had a perfect game through five innings. Then ECR got a run in the sixth to tie the game, 1-1, on an RBI single by Dylan Hirsch.

James Terrazas threw two shutout innings of relief to pick up the win. He got a strikeout to end the game in the bottom of the ninth with the tying runners on base.

El Camino Real (12-2) will play JSerra in Thursday’s 6 p.m. semifinal at JSerra. “We’re pitching well,” Coach Josh Lienhard said.

JSerra defeated La Costa Canyon, 11-2. Royce Lewis went three for three and Lyle Lin hit a home run and had four RBIs.

Riverside North upset its second consecutive Orange County power, beating No. 2 Orange Lutheran, 6-2, after knocking off Huntington Beach on Tuesday. Shane Martinez threw a complete game and also contributed three hits. Christian Koss added two hits. North advanced to Thursday’s 6 p.m. semifinal against Mira Costa at Mater Dei.

Mira Costa defeated Mater Dei, 11-3. Zack Chan had three hits and five RBIs. Brett Davis added three hits.

In consolation games, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated South Hills, 5-4. The Knights got a bases loaded walk to win the game in the seventh. Colin Brophy hit two home runs. His three-run blast tied the game, 4-4.

Huntington Beach defeated Vista Murrieta, 7-6. Dylan Palmer had a home run and three RBIs. Cory Moore had two RBIs. Damien defeated Loyola, 5-4, on a walk-off error in the seventh. Daniel Benedict tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a home run. Loyola committed five errors. Christian Gambale and Joe Fortin had two hits each for the Cubs.

Corona Santiago defeated Chaminade, 9-2. Nick Burtrum went three for three, including a home run. Graham Kuck threw a complete game, allowing three hits.
