Football: Gardena Serra finally gets to play a home game

In the seventh week of the football season, Gardena Serra will finally have its first home game. And it’s a big one. The Cavaliers (5-1, 2-0) host Bishop Amat (5-1, 2-0) on Friday night in a game that could help decide the Mission League championship.
Serra had bleachers condemned and most have been removed and refurbished, allowing the Cavaliers to play on their home field this week.
As far as facing Bishop Amat, Coach Scott Altenberg said, “They’re pretty good everywhere. They’re good up front and have great skill players on both sides. We’re going to have to play mistake free.”
Bishop Amat will have to be able to tackle Serra quarterback Khalil Tate, something few teams have done well in recent weeks.
Tate had 185 yards rushing and 249 yards passing last week against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
