Football: Long snappers to watch in 2014
Just like every football team needs a good kicker or punter, every football team needs a good long snapper.
Long snapper guru Chris Rubio has given me his opinion on the top long snappers in Southern California for 2014.
They start with A.J. Carty of Servite, committed to Washington. Additional seniors to watch are Ryan Simmons of Dana Hills, J.T. Bale of La Mirada, Harrison Hoffman of Oaks Christian and Richard Wilcox of El Dorado.
Among juniors, there’s John Aloma of Simi Valley, Damon Johnson of Glendora, Koby Walsh of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and Grant Jaffe of Santa Margarita.
If you want to know the importance of long snappers, just ask Narbonne High. Three bad snaps resulted in three safeties for Crenshaw in last season’s City Section Division I championship game.
Good long snappers can help prevent problems.
