Football: San Bernardino’s Alex Mattison serves notice with his athleticism

Nike held a regional camp in Redondo on Sunday for football players, and the player who came out with the best SPARQ score was San Bernardino junior running Alex Mattison, who happens to be a straight-A student and rushed for 2,017 yards and 26 touchdowns.
“I’m not surprised,” Coach Jeff Imbriani said. “He works hard every day. If he didn’t have a combine on Sunday, he’d be working hard.”
His score was 112.74. No. 2 was Santa Margarita receiver Dylan Crawford. No. 3 was St. John Bosco running back Sean McGrew and No. 4 was Paraclete running back Melquise Stovall.
Mattison won a league title in wrestling and is going to run in the 100 meters for the track team this spring.
He’s almost 6-foot-1 and weighs 195 pounds. Colorado and Washington have offered scholarships, and the Ivy League would be happy to welcome him.
