Water polo: Huntington Beach, Orange Lutheran eliminate No. 1 and No. 2 seeds

Garrett Zaan broke a 6-6 tie with a goal with less than five minutes left, and Huntington Beach’s defense, led by goalie Patrick Saunders, hung tough in a 7-6 Southern Section Division 1 semifinal victory over No. 2-seeded Harvard-Westlake on Wednesday night in Irvine.
In the last three years, Harvard-Westlake had won two Division 1 titles and finished second in the other.
In another major upset, No. 1-seeded Loyola was beaten by Orange Lutheran, 9-5. Marko and Stefan Vavic each had two goals for Loyola.
Huntington Beach advances to Saturday’s final in Irvine against Orange Lutheran.
