Pac-12 media day: Stanford success starts up front, David Shaw says

Stanford proved last season that it did not need star quarterback Andrew Luck to continue as a consistent national power.
The Cardinal got a boost from the play of Kevin Hogan, who passed for nine touchdowns, with three interceptions, after supplanting Josh Nunes as the starter.
The 6-4 Hogan, a junior from McLean, Va., was the most valuable player in the Pac-12 Conference championship game and led Stanford to a Rose Bowl victory.
“Our quarterback is a budding superstar,” Stanford Coach David Shaw said Friday, when asked about quarterbacks in the Pac-12.
Shaw reiterated that even though the Cardinal features Hogan and a stable of running backs that includes Tyler Gaffney, Anthony Wilkerson and others, Stanford’s success begins with its offensive line.
“It’s our big guys up front,” Shaw said. “That’s where football starts for us.”
