UCLA football: Bruins hope new duds won’t be a dud

UCLA, in an effort to keep up with the Joneses -- or rather, the Oregon Ducks -- will use an alternate uniform this season.
In a release, UCLA officials said the Bruins will wear a uniform, “centered around an all-black theme and highlighted by a metallic version of the classic UCLA stripes and matching metallic gold numbers with a custom blue outline.”
UCLA has used a handful of alternate uniforms in recent seasons, joining other programs in an effort to stand out. The most infamous moment was the all-white outfits the Bruins wore against USC in 2011. Those looked more like a surrender flag in a 50-0 loss.
It should be noted that no UCLA team has won a conference title in a year it used an alternate uniform.
