The Defense Department last week identified the following American soldier who died at a U.S. military hospital of his injuries in Aghanistan:
Robert J. Yllescas, 31, of Lincoln, Neb.; captain, Army. Yllescas died Monday at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., of injuries suffered Oct. 28 when a roadside bomb exploded near his unit at Combat Outpost Keating in northeastern Afghanistan’s Nuristan province. His legs were mangled and he suffered head trauma in the blast while commanding a cavalry troop. His legs were later amputated. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
